MI REGISTRATION (SY2018-19)

Updated 11/11/2017. For the latest information about registration, please refer to Redwood City School District Registration. The information here is intended to assist parents interested in the Mandarin Immersion program at John Gill School.


FOR TRANSITIONAL KINDERGARTEN (IN AND OUT-OF-DISTRICT RESIDENTS)

At this time, RCSD is not offering registration for a TK class in the MI program. However, if there is enough interest they will consider opening a class. Please contact Melanie Davenport at RCSD (mdavenport@rcsdk8.net) if you are interested.


FOR REDWOOD CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT RESIDENTS (K-4)


1. Fill out the online Registration form. Registration opens 9am Saturday, October 28. Documents needed for Registration:
  • Birth Certificate of Child, Certificate or Passport (only one is required)
  • Immunization Record
  • Two Forms of Proof of Residency (only two of the following are required)
    • A current utility bill with parent's/guardian’s name on it
    • A deed, or a rental agreement
    • Current Car Registration or Insurance
    • Any type of correspondence from a local or state agency
    • Recent pay stub that shows parent’s/guardian’s address
  • Parent/Guardian Photo ID
You may also register in person on Monday, October 30 from 9AM-3:30PM at your neighborhood school or on Saturday, November 4 from 9AM-12:30PM at Fair Oaks Community School, Garfield Community School, Hawes Community School, Hoover Community School, or Taft Community School. It is recommended you bring both the original and a copy of your documents to speed up the registration process when you go in person. 

2. During the registration process you will be prompted to select a school. 
Please be sure to select SOC - John Gill Elementary School - Mandarin Immersion, and NOT "SOC John Gill Elementary School." 
The latter is for the regular, non-MI program at the school. (Residents who live in the John Gill neighborhood must complete both a home neighborhood school application and a second application for School of Choice to indicate that they want to be in the MI program.)

At this time, you are applying for the John Gill School Mandarin Immersion program. You will be entered into a lottery. The lottery is random and is not based on the date you register, grades, test scores, nor your child's ability to speak or not speak Mandarin. 
The window of registration to be entered into the lottery ends on Friday, December 22, 2017.

3. For Grades 2 through 4 ONLY: An entrance exam is required to enroll in the MI program. Please contact Principal Rivera at John Gill for details. 

4. Notifications will go out on Friday, February 23rd by email or mail. 

5. Confirm your placement by Friday, March 2nd

The Schools of Choice form will re-open from Thursday, March 8, 2018 until Friday, September 28, 2018. For this second window, applications will be accepted in the order that they are received (not by lottery).

FOR OUT-OF-DISTRICT RESIDENTS (K-4)

2. During the registration process you will be prompted to select a school. 
Please be sure to select SOC - John Gill Elementary School - Mandarin Immersion, and NOT "SOC John Gill Elementary School." 
The latter is for the regular, non-MI program at the school. 

At this time, you are applying for the John Gill School Mandarin Immersion program. You will be entered into a lottery. The lottery is random and is not based on the date you register, grades, test scores, nor your child's ability to speak or not speak Mandarin. 
The window of registration to be entered into the lottery ends on Friday, December 22, 2017.

3. Register with your neighborhood school in your home district. Check with your district on registration dates and your neighborhood school location.

Friday, February 23rd  email or mail. Use the confirmation code to determine placement/waitlist. Only after you have been accepted to the MI program will you be released by your home district.

6. Fill out an Interdistrict Transfer form from your home district. (for example here is the San Mateo-Foster City School District Interdistrict Transfer form). This form will be transferred by your home district directly to Redwood City School District.

7. Confirm your placement by
